Srai Wi Activities
Srai Wi means “my children” in the Keresan language, the original language of the people of Tamaya. Srai Wi activities are carefully curated by our Cultural staff to offer our young guests multiple creative, unique and authentic learning experiences. Children of all ages will find adventure that feeds the soul at Tamaya! Some Srai Wi activities are seasonal. Adobe Brick Making
Work hands on creating a traditional mini adobe brick (mud bricks) just like the people of Santa Ana Pueblo have done for hundreds of years. Families will work together to create an adobe brick, to take home to remember their trip to Tamaya. Bricks will bake in the New Mexico sun for 24 hours and will be delivered to the guest the day after their experience.
Join our Native American artisans as they demonstrate how to make their authentic arts & crafts. Artisan will be available to talk with guests about the materials and the steps it takes to create finished pieces. Finished pieces will be available for sale at the time of the demonstrations.

Clay & Culture
Follow in the footsteps of our pueblo pottery makers. Guests will learn the traditional ways to make pueblo pottery. A Pueblo potter will lead the class by explaining the materials used to create pottery. Each participant will be given self-hardening clay and will be taken through the steps of building their own piece using the pinch pot and coil methods. Once the piece is complete everyone will have a chance to paint it. When completely finished, guests will take their pottery home.
Corn Husk Wreath
Join us to learn how to create a beautiful wreath using colorful corn husks. Guests will choose the husks, transform into a wreath and take it home as a memento of their time at Tamaya.
Cultural Learning Center Tour
We invite you to visit the Cultural Learning Center, located near the resort entrance. You will be guided through the center learning the history and culture of the Tamayame, the people of the Santa Ana Pueblo.
Cultural Craft Room
Join the Cultural Team at Tamaya to make various Native American inspired crafts during our open craft room. All materials needed for the crafts will be provided. Reservations are not required and families can join at their conveniences.
Join us and learn about gourds and their uses. Gourd Painting is a rising art in many Native American communities. Guests will pick a gourd to design, paint and take home.
Guided Nature Walk
Enjoy a guided nature walk through the Bosque of Tamaya. Guest will have an opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna that is indigenous to New Mexico and the extensive restoration project that is underway.

Jemez Dam Road Biking & Jogging - Seasonal
Challenge yourself while riding our Hybrid bikes on the Tamaya Blvd. to the Jemez Dam overlook area.
Join our Navajo Silversmith in our copper stamping class. The instructor will take the guests thought the steps he uses to create a stamped bracelet from measuring the copper strips to polishing a finished bracelet. Guests will take home a polished copper bracelet.
Kids Flute Painting
Receive a bamboo flute to design, paint and decorate using Native American inspired supplies and petroglyph designs. Once finished decorating, the kids play a short melody on their flutes..
Join us to discover the fun of leather stamping! Stamp out a design on your own leather accessory. Choose from a coin pouch, bracelet or keychain. Guests will take their accessory home as a souvenir of their Tamaya experience.
Movie Time - Seasonal
Sit back and relax while watching a movie together as a family. Family movies will be played all summer long, on our large outdoor inflatable screen.
Guests will learn about the Trail of the Painted Ponies. Start by viewing Tamaya’s Painted Pony created by Art Menchego, a Tamaya Tribal member. Guests will design and paint your very own painted pony to take home and remember your trip to Tamaya.
Petroglyph Box Painting
We invite children ages 6 and up to join the Cultural team and learn about petroglyphs and where they can be found in New Mexico. Children will paint a box and decorate it with their own interpretations of petroglyphs designs. Once done they can store small objects in their box to take home and remember Tamaya.
Kids will join us to make their own lunch. They will form their own mini pizza and roll out some biscochito cookies, which will both be baked in one of our traditional Huruna ovens. After baking, the kids will enjoy their fresh pizza and cookies.
Pony Rides – Seasonal
Hop on Bullet, the pony for a lead-around ride in our pony corral.
Sand Tile Painting
We invite you to learn the exquisite art of sand tile painting. Guests will customize a tile with colorful sand and take their tile home to remember their Tamaya experience.
Stories Under the Stars
Join our Native American storytellers as he tells various creation stories that have been handed down from generation to generation.
Roast marshmallows over the flames at one of our outdoor fire pits, then add the graham cracker and chocolate to create a classic camping treat. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Wine and Watercolor
Guests are invited to participate in our watercolor landscape painting class on the Rio Grande Patio. Guests will receive a glass of our signature Canvas wine and learn how to paint the magnificent scene of the Sandia Mountains and the Cottonwood Forest.
